Kansas Reads to Preschoolers

The State Library of Kansas, the Kansas Center for the Book and Stanton County Public Library proudly announces Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Kansas author Bill Martin, Jr., as the selection for the seventh annual Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week. Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback will serve as honorary chair for the special week, Nov. 13-19, 2011.

Stanton County Public Library will celebrate the week reading to daycares, preschools, Pre K & Kindergarten classes , as well as doing various activities.

The 2011 Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week focuses on the commemoration of Kansas’ 150^th anniversary of statehood as well as the importance of reading to very young children. Author Bill Martin, Jr., was a well-known Kansas author for children, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is one of his best-known books. It is available in many formats. The book is described as a bright and lively rhyme in which the letters of the alphabet race each other to the top of a coconut tree. When X, Y, and Z finally scramble up the trunk, however, the weight is too much and down they all tumble in a colorful chaotic heap.

Join the Library and Kansans everywhere as we commemorate Kansas statehood, emphasize early literacy, and read to preschoolers.

Stanton County Public Library is taking food for fines Oct. 26th thru Nov. 18th. Bring in food, show it to library staff, and we will take off your fines…it’s that easy! We only ask that the food is not outdated, so that it can be used.

Fall Fun Time

Fall Fun Time started out with children gathering at the Stanton County Recreation, making a very cute craft, playing games & eating lunch. Then it was on to the ball fields for more games. It ended by them walking to the library and decorating it for Halloween. The library looked really great for Halloween–great job kids!!!

Stanton Co. Public Library in Johnson, KS is seeking a competent and organized individual to fill the position of High School Aid. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills and enjoy serving and working with library patrons of all ages. Application deadline is August 12, 2011. Application packets can be picked up at the Library.

PLAYAWAY BOOKS!!!

What are Playaway Books? Glad you asked!!

Playaway Books are full length books on a digital media player. They differ from audio books in that you don’t need any extra equipment to be able to listen to them. They are self contained (including the earbuds). The Playaway Books are great to listen to at home,office, traveling or for just relaxing in the evenings!

Be sure to come in the library and see what the Playaway is all about!
